Description
Icon "Saint Mandylion" on
wooden egg - hand-painted with 24-karat burnished gilding
The icon is made by pre-order.
The icon of Saint Mandylion is inspired by the famous image, kept in the monastery of Saint Catherine in Sinai and dates back to the 13th century.
It is exquisitely recreated on a gilded wooden egg - a
symbol of creation, rebirth and an eternal life.
This unique work represents a harmonious synthesis
between spiritual depth and high artistic mastery, transmissing the traditions
of Medieval icon painting into a modern format, that preserves the sacred power
of the image.
The base of the icon is made of solid beech wood,
selected for its density and durability.
With the dimensions of 7/10 cm., it impresses with its
compact but monumental energy.
Each curve of the egg-shaped wood is carefully
polished to reflect the light in a soft and radiant way.
The surface is generously covered with 24-karat
burnished gilding, which not only gives solemnity to the icon, but also
symbolizes the imperishable divine light.
The "Holy Mandylion" or the "Holy Face" is an iconographic image that depicts only the sacred cloth with the image of Christ which is not made by hands.
The image of the Savior not made by hands, whose gaze is calm and full of mercy, is depicted with an exceptional attention to the detail.
The exceptional craftsmanship and fine gilding make
this work an unique one, suitable for both a personal prayer collection and an
exquisite gift with deep meaning.
