Description
Icon "Crucifix" - hand-painted with 24-karat burnished gilding
This impressive handmade icon of the Crucifixion of Christ is created with deep respect for the Orthodox tradition and precise master technique.
The wood-carved Crucifix is made in the shape of a traditional Cross, with exceptional attention to the detail. The cross itself is hand-carved from solid wood, with fine ornamentation along the edges, which emphasizes its sacred value. In the center is represented Christ, depicted with delicate lines and expressive plasticity, which give depth and realism to the crucifixion scene.
The inscription INRI on the crucifix has a very deep meaning.
It is an abbreviation of "Jesus of Nazareth, King of the Jews", placed by Pilate above the head of Christ to indicate the reason for His condemnation (John 19:19). In the Orthodox tradition, the inscription is interpreted as follows:
- Historical meaning - this is the accusation for which Christ was crucified. Pilate wrote it with irony, but unknowingly spoke the truth: Christ is a King.
- Theological meaning – the inscription reveals that Christ is not a king according to the earthly model, but the King of the Heavenly Kingdom, Who conquers the death and evil. The cross becomes His throne.
- Iconographic meaning – when we see “INRI” on the cross, we not only recall the event, but also confess that the crucified one is the true King and Lord of the universe.
Thus, the inscription INRI is not just a sign, but a confession of faith:
✝️ The Crucified One is Christ – the King and Savior of the world.
The surface is covered with 24-кarat burnished gold, applied evenly onto the wood, which gives a warm golden tone and emits a strong sheen when exposed to light. Thanks to the polished processing, the golden coating seems to glow from within, emphasizing the spiritual light and symbolism of the cross.
This Crucifixion combines traditional Orthodox iconographic aesthetics and exquisite woodcarving craftsmanship, making it not only an object for prayer and veneration, but also a work of art with a powerful presence.
