Description
Icon "Crucifix of Christ" - hand-painted with 24-karat burnished gilding
The wooden Crucifix is made of high-quality, solid wood with fine processing by hand.
It features a relief image of Jesus Christ, precisely sculpted to emphasize every detail - from the facial expression to the position of the body.
The image represents Jesus Christ crucified on the Cross, depicted in the center of the composition. His body is slightly tilted, and His face is mournful and calm, a symbol of the sacrifice and victory over the death.
The image of the Savior is depicted in the traditional Byzantine technique - egg tempera on wood.
The Crucifix is covered with pure 24-karat water gilding, which symbolizes the Divine light and the heavenly glory.
It gives a noble, warm shine and bright contrast to the natural texture of the wood, combining elegance with an exceptional craftsmanship.
The inscription INRI, inscribed on the Crucifix, is not just an abbreviation - it is a spiritual formula, that unites history, theology and iconography into one living testimony to Christ. Originating from the words "Jesus of Nazareth, King of the Jews", this message was written by Pilate above the head of the Savior as an official accusation.
Historically, INRI denotes the reason why Christ was condemned. But in the theological sense, the inscription reveals the eternal truth - the kingdom of Christ is not earthly, transient or a subject of human power. It is a heavenly kingdom, that conquers the death and the evil. The Cross, a symbol of torture, becomes His royal throne.
In the iconography, this short sign serves to remind us that He Who dies on the Cross is the true King, Who voluntarily accepts suffering for the salvation of the world.
Thus, INRI becomes a sacred formula of the faith:
