The fourth of the major prophets, along with Isaiah, Jeremiah and Ezekiel, he came from a royal family, but his fate took him far from his native land in his youth - to Babylon, together with the captive Jewish people.
Gifted with exceptional spiritual and physical potentialities, Daniel not only accepted the foreign environment. He mastered the Chaldean language and wisdom and, together with his faithful companions - Hananiah, Azariah and Mishael, he was called to serve in the royal court. Amid the splendor of power and the temptations of the pagan world, Daniel preserved the purity of his faith and established himself as a man of the spirit of God.
With his gift of interpreting dreams, he revealed to King Nebuchadnezzar the deep meaning of his dreams. Daniel himself was repeatedly honored by God with revelations about great and fateful events in the history of the mankind. His wisdom and righteousness also elevated him during the time of King Darius, who appointed him as one of the three governors of the vast empire.
The most striking testimony to his unwavering faith remains his miraculous salvation from the lions' den - a test, in which the human cruelty was defeated by the God's mercy. Thrown among the wild beasts for his loyalty to the Christian faith, Daniel emerged unharmed, affirming the truth that the trust in God is stronger than any earthly threat.
