Icon “Christ Emmanuel with the Four Evangelists” – hand-painted with 925 silver

In the center of the icon is represented Christ Emmanuel. His face is stern, but full of mercy. Around His head shines a cross-shaped halo with the letters “Ο ΩΝ” (“The Ever-Existing”).

The icon of Christ Emmanuel ("God with us") is particularly revered in Orthodox iconography and carries a deep theological meaning.

Christ is depicted young, but His face eradiates wisdom. This symbolizes that although young in His body, He is the eternal God.

The background of the icon is silver, symbolizing purity and eternity, and creates a feeling of heavenly light.

Around Christ are the four evangelists represented in the form of a tetramorph, according to the vision of the prophet Ezekiel and the Revelation of John:

Matthew – as an angel, a symbol of the Incarnation;

Mark – as a winged lion, a symbol of the power and royal dignity of Christ;

Luke – as a winged ox, a symbol of sacrifice and redemption;

John – as an eagle, a symbol of exaltation and the divine word.

The four symbols surround Christ symmetrically – in the four corners of the icon, with each being holding either a book or a scroll, testifying to the Gospel he has written.
